Bay Bulls council has approved funding for a youth study room.
Deputy Mayor Ethan Williams made the motion to fund the room during last week’s monthly public council meeting.
“I move to approve the opening of the café style study centre for student use from September to June each year, and further move to approve the purchase of supplies, furnishings, equipment and materials required for the establishment and operation of the centre with a projected budget of $3,000 and HST,” said Williams.
Councillor Johnny O’Dea seconded the motion.
Williams said the idea for the centre was presented to council by a couple of students from Bay Bulls.
“Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a quiet area to get their work done,” he added. “This will support some of our young people in town.”
Neither Mayor Keith O’Driscoll nor Town Manager Ashley Wakeham returned calls to provide more information about the centre, such as where it will be located, or its operating hours. O’Driscoll and Wakeham have failed to return messages for two consecutive council meetings. The Town also hasn’t posted minutes from its public meetings since April.
